After 20 plus years in the area, I am very excited to share some new horizons Terramar is opening with our Loreto and Punta Mita expansions.
I discovered the area working in tourism, but a huge part of my passion has come through surfing, camping, and outdoor adventures. Baja California Sur, the Sea of Cortez and Punta Mita are truly unique places on earth. Although they develop with tourism, they have a romantic history of being remote escapes for the rich and famous, or of the road less traveled by most. Today they all hold the essence of the calmness, beauty, and natural abundance that has always been the attraction.
Our Sea of Cortez is abundant with more than 60% of all marine species – on the planet. Snorkeling in waist deep water you have the chance to visit sea urchins, starfish, manta rays, octopus, schooling fish, or venture a little deeper to dive with sea lions or whale sharks. In Magdalena Bay, pet a Grey Whale from a skiff. One can also find incredible uncrowded surf, adrenalin-pumping kite surfing, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, or a quiet and relaxed kayak to commune with mother nature.
On land there is such diversity, but mostly an incredible history of our planet is told. Baja is classified as desert, but the state boasts many pristine fresh water oasis, a small pine forest at higher altitudes, and layers upon layers of basalt, volcanic ash, and sediment which hold millions of years of history fossilized in their layers. Near Loreto, the cave paintings of the San Fransisco mountains are the oldest proof of human history in the Americas, dating back 7,500 years ago. More recently the Italian missionaries left us the living legacy of olive trees and wild herbs. On the mainland in the Punta Mita and Puerto Vallarta areas you will find a lush tropical jungle to accent the abundant sea, and within easy day trips, see some more authentic Mexican culture.
